- NIMHOA and NIMROD
- Two dubious acronyms for advanced NIMBYism – Not In My Home Owner’s Association and Not In My Range Of Desert.
Writing in The Wall Street Journal, Keith Johnson shed light on some new developments in NIMBYism: In Los Angeles, a homeowners association recently sued a resident who defied a ban on installing solar panels. And, in San Bernardino, the County Supervisor refused permission for a solar energy project in the Mojave Desert.
“All of which, “Johnson observed, “raises the question: Since NIMBYism isn’t going away, and is in fact expanding beyond ‘backyards,’ isn’t it time for a new acronym?”:NIMHOA – Not In My Home Owner’s Association – has a soothing Polynesian lilt. And for the much broader and pitched battle over whether to promote solar power or protect desert tortoises, how about NIMROD – Not In My Range Of Desert?[NIMBY stands for Not In My Backyard.]
